Body Combat, the November 2011 EP, from Brown Bread and Von Holt, has been catching a lot of buzz since it’s debut. From international Vice write ups, to local articles in the Beacon Citizen. And, I’m excited to say we have them on the line up for the May music extraaaav, Peace and Harmony Festival!!!
Both Brown Bread, Rebecca Dorfer, and Von Holt, Colin Cheyne, devoted years to the Hudson Valley and NYC music scenes, playing in long standing bands like The Amazing Sensationals and The NeonGloworms, before beginning their independent side projects Brown Bread and Von Holt, respectively. This is Becky and Colin’s first album together.
Body Combat is eclectic electric. From soothing ballad-esque tracks like ‘The Problems Living in a Haunted House’; to, catchy dance beats crooned over by Brown Breads honey-like ambient vocals, as with ‘Please Check Around for your Personal Belongings’. While I’ve read in other reviews that this is their most focused piece of work yet… I have to argue, jointly it’s their only piece of work. While Von Holt supplies the rhythmic beats and un-inhibited 8-bit video game sounding thrills and spills, Brown Bread brings sweet, yet powerful vocals, accompanied by a melodic emotive keyboard. Listening to Von Holt or Brown Bread independently, however, is a treat in itself for anyone who can’t get enough from just Body Combat.
The un-official video for the track ‘You Came at the Right Time’ was the creation of a very talented fan who was stuck in an airport. On a whim he began filming and from his waiting for the right time, this beautiful video was born.
I hope you guys check out more Brown Bread and Von Holt available on iTunes and Amazon.com. If you can’t wait until The Peace and Harmony Festival to see them live, check out their Facebook page for shows. They’ll be playing at The Coffee Shoppe in Beacon, NY at 5pm tomorrow.
As always,
Feel Free to be Free
